Enjoy your candles safely

Do you know something as enchanting as the soft, flickering light and glow of a candle? Of course, it does matter that a candle burns properly and safely. How can you know? By looking at the candle!

What you're supposed to see:

  • A calm, even flame
This means the burning process is balanced.
  • No flickering or wisps of smoke
Constant flickering and smoke occur when the teardrop shape of the flame is disturbed. This allows small amounts of unburned carbon particles (soot) to escape from the flame as a visible plume of smoke. This is due to too much or too little air at the candle flame. To avoid this, always burn candles in a well-ventilated area, away from draughts, vents or strong air currents.
  • No crazy flames (stinging or jumping)
Do you see your flame blazing high or making crazy shapes? Then your wick may be too long.
It is important to cut the wick to the right length before each use. That length is always on the label and is usually 1 cm.

Always follow the basic rules for the safe use of candles to keep them in top condition:

  • Always store your candles in a cool, dark and dry place. Thin candles, such as dinner candles, are best stored flat to avoid warping.
  • See dust or fingerprints on your candle? Remove it by gently rubbing the surface with a soft cloth.
  • Would you like to remove wax residue from your candlestick? You can do so by running hot water over it, or put the candlestick in the freezer for an hour first. This way, you can easily remove candle wax from the candlestick.
  • Avoid burning candles in a glass object that is not specifically made for candles. While it can look pretty, these glassware are often not designed for candles and temperature changes.

Spaas candles always ensures that its candles are safe for use. Together with an extensive quality team and our R&D, this safety is monitored daily.

Safety instructions are always printed on the candles, so always read these carefully before use.
