Spaas wins Family Business Award of Excellence

Ernst & Young (EY) revealed the winner on Tuesday 22 March in Brussels. The Spaas family will remember this nerve-wracking evening with a festive climax for a long time.

The jury was especially impressed by the uniform leadership, the strategy and the sustainable entrepreneurship at Spaas. Gaasch Packaging and Nelissen Steenfabrieken were the other two finalists.

“Spaas Kaarsen has developed a strong family vision. It is clear what the family stands for and how they implement their vision into the family business operation”, says Guido Vanherpe, CEO at La Lorraine Bakery Group and chairman of the jury.

In the footsteps of Cartamundi

Every year, the Family Business Award of Excellence® awards a Belgian family business that excels in corporate governance.

Both within the family and in the company, in the vision and preservation of family values. As well as in the transmission of the entrepreneurial spirit across generations, communication and engagement.

It is an initiative by EY in cooperation with FBN Belgium, Guberna, BNP Paribas Fortis and Mediafin.

This year is the eighth time the award is being presented. Last year, the award went to Cartamundi, the producer and distributor of popular card and board games such as UNO and Monopoly. Other laureates include Duvel Moortgat, Vandersanden GroupLa Lorraine and Reynaers Aluminium.

It goes without saying that we are extremely proud of this prestigious award! As we are of Ben and Sarah Spaas, the fifth Spaas generation that dares to focus on the long-term future.
